Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Danny Awwad

MBBS, FRACS (Orth), FAOrthA

Dr Danny Awwad specialises in hip and knee replacements, including complex revision surgery, with a strong focus on modern techniques that optimise recovery and long-term function.
A locally trained Adelaide surgeon, Dr Awwad has completed advanced Fellowship training at two of the world’s leading orthopaedic centres: the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, where he undertook specialised training in complex revision hip and knee replacement; and the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Glasgow, where he gained expertise in robotic-assisted joint surgery. His subspecialty training in the Direct Anterior Approach to hip replacement was further refined alongside internationally recognised surgeons in Switzerland and Australia.
Dr Awwad’s surgical practice includes minimally invasive anterior hip replacement, robotic knee replacement, and revision hip and knee surgery for patients whose previous joint replacement requires optimisation, correction, or re-implantation.
He is committed to delivering precise, patient-centred care, approaching each case with the same level of attention and detail, whether performing a primary joint replacement or managing a complex revision. Patients consistently leave consultations with a clear, confident understanding of their diagnosis, treatment options, and expected outcomes, an approach that extends through every stage of surgery and recovery
As an Orthopaedic Consultant at Flinders Medical Centre, Dr Awwad plays an active role in training and mentoring the next generation of surgeons. He is a Principal Investigator in the ROADMAP Study, an international research initiative aimed at improving outcomes for patients with hip and knee joint infections. Dr Awwad combines strong academic involvement with broad clinical experience in his subspecialty practice. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and a member of the Girdlestone Orthopaedic Society for Oxford-trained surgeons.
He consults at Flinders Private Hospital, Ashford Specialist Suites and the Western Hospital, providing care to patients from across Adelaide and South Australia.
