Dr George Awwad Profile
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr George Awwad

MBBS, FRACS (Orth), FAOrthA

Dr George Awwad approaches knee and hip surgery with a clear focus on the individual. Understanding what each patient is aiming to return to, and tailoring treatment to support that outcome.
A specialist in knee and hip surgery in Adelaide, Dr Awwad has built his practice around a considered approach to care: surgery should only be recommended when it is clearly the right answer. He takes time in consultation to understand not just the imaging in front of him, but the life a patient wants to return to. Whether that’s running a half marathon, coaching their child’s football team, or simply walking without pain. The goal shapes the plan.
Dr George Awwad Profile
His Fellowship training spans three of Sydney’s leading orthopaedic centres, where he developed specialist expertise in robotic joint replacement, the Direct Anterior Approach to hip replacement, and sports surgery of the knee. These techniques, among the most advanced available in Australian orthopaedic surgery, allow for greater precision, faster recovery and better long-term outcomes, particularly for active patients.

Dr Awwad’s surgical practice includes robotic knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair and knee arthroscopy, alongside personalised anterior hip replacement and robotic hip replacement for patients across Adelaide and South Australia.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr Awwad contributes to the training of future orthopaedic surgeons as an Associate Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. His published research includes work on knee injuries in elite rugby league, drawn from his experience working directly with the NSW Waratahs Super Rugby Union team and the Newcastle Knights NRL team, as well as studies on long-term joint replacement outcomes.

He consults at Memorial Medical Centre, Flinders Private, Mt Barker and Port Pirie.
